Over breakfast, found out my rule was disobeyed, they stayed until 11pm.  I am pleased that I am staying in Hungary this week, taking one day out would have been too much. Mail down, Internet Down.

I wake up. Far too early again. Off we go. I won't be back for two weeks and will have stayed in two countries.  The journey was uneventful, thankfully!  Spend day ensuring the final trial conversion which is underway, completes OK tomorrow.  Lay down law, no late nights just yet. There will be plenty of time towards the end of the week to work all night.

I like Thursday's. Why. Well its only one day to go before the week-end.  We have changed next week and I am glad. I should have kicked of new project is Slovakia. This has been postponed by one week until after the conversion. I was looking forward to the train journey from Bratislavia to Budapest, another day maybe.

Hole still in trousers. It is discreet, and not getting any bigger.The Aged Credit problem looks like it is resolved. An Algorithm has been developed that will resolve the problem to everyone's satisfaction, especially the target application.  This problem has cost 3 days of quality testing on an exact copy of the database.

Week 13 - Monday 21/02/00

I wake up. Far too early Off we go again. Up at 4:30, Taxi at 5:30, check in 6:00. Fly 6:50 (ish).  I love Amsterdam airport, but air traffic control just mess it up. We only leave 15 minutes late  The day starts well. I get on the plane, slide into my seat. The Ash Tray is not pushed in fully, rip. A bloody big hole in my suit trousers. Dam and blast.  Only 10 working days until we convert. Pressure is mounting so what is going to burst.  Arrive at work with no further adventures and mishaps. Fires to put out. Egos and politics! Vow to have no more time off as things go to pot! (A vow I will break)!  Well I believe I have sorted things out between the parties. Tomorrow will tell!  One fire has blown the schedule for the last two weeks out of the water. Finance along with a consulting company, have "corrected" some customer aged debt buckets. This correction has meant that we now have aged credits. What? This is something the target system cannot cope with. And I understand why! What with my trousers having a hole in them I knew it was not going to be a good day! I must listen to my instinct

Out tonight with my old friend James. James is working at my old company it will be interesting to catch up on old times and the latest from my old company.  A mere 7 pints of the black stuff. A good evening. There is a fair in the Square in Nottingham with this great ride. It is a sort of inverse bungee jump. You are strapped into a cage, two of you, which is clamped onto the ground. two great big elastic bands are stretched over two towers. They then let the cage go. You bounce up and down, twisting and a turning. It looks great. My wife would not let me go on it!. Oh the whole thing is taped which you can buy.  The extension is going up.

Holiday to day. I fly out 10:30, this is more like it compared to last week. I have changed my flights 06:45, I must be crazy, at least I wont miss the sale!  The best laid plans of mice and men. Amsterdam airport is a bit windy, so the plane is delayed, by 15 minutes. We actually leave 55 minutes late. 2 hours of flying I will land as my next plane departs. I speak to the on-board staff to discuss tactics. We will arrive at D54, the next plane is leaving they discover at 09:56 from D6. Get my running shoes out. I am second out of the plane. Running for D6, a gate I have not used before. I make it, dam its a bus terminal, a scanner at the entrance is working slowly. I get through and rush to the desk. I made it. The plane is going to leave at 10:30. I check in and then catch my breath.  I have to buy a kitchen tonight, before I leave as MFI have a sale on   Yes tonight! - Bloody great. Front row. Steve Howe in front of me. Gee that man can play!

Today forensic we in taking fingerprints from the affected machines. Well how many projects does this happen to.  The replacement Sun machine arrived today.  Spent a lot of the day planning for my absence. Holiday can be a killer!  Ordered a mobile for the company secretary, she deserves it!

A bit disconcerting having armed police walking around your project office, certainly for a Brit.  We have had some guts of our PC's removed without permission.  Lunch with Sun to discuss their proposal for replacing the loan machine they have sold out from us. How unreasonable! They can loan us another so that's all right then. Cheers! A jolly nice lunch it was too.  Visited the training center and all seems very nice too. A bit warm. There is a Hotel downstairs if things get too heavy!

Back in the office for 07:30. So much to do as I am not here tomorrow. (Including updating this diary)  I was offered a full time position today. I must be doing something wrong. Have to speak to the missus when I get home.  Project meeting held today as I am off. The Czech and Slovak representatives also attend. It will be good to let them see me in action.  Went out tonight, with and old friend Chris, who got me into my current position, thanks mate!!. Also present were representatives from my next two projects, Czech and Slovakia. Who goes first, That is the dilemma. Lets place the girls in a room, who ever comes out first, goes first. Just to make it exciting, who looses gets Chris!!  Ok the real reason. Both countries are represented by young ladies. Each is getting married. So the order is based upon bride availability. The plan has nuptials as milestones. This is very novel. Must add the hen / stag nights.

Wake at 2:15 AM. 00:15 UK 1:15 CET, to return back to Budapest. I check out taxi booked for 03:00. Tel Aviv airport is a fun place to depart a country.  There are questions and more questions. We got off lightly as the questions lasted two minutes, if that.  Join the line to have our luggage scanned. More questions. I admit that I am carrying gifts for people back in Hungary that have been given to me. These are marketing pens.  I set my bags on the scanner machine. This is huge. Once the second enters the machine, I am allowed to proceed. As I reach the end of the machine, I see my 1st bag on the exit ramp. I await the one with the additional items. It is ejected with some force.  A lady, young girl, request to see what I have been given. I show her. She checks them out by weighing them and scanning them. They are ok. I am allowed to check in.  I leave at 2:30. I am flagging. I fall asleep in my hotel. I awake about 19:45 and receive a phone call. An old mate has arrived in town. Fancy a drink and a burger. Is the pope catholic, Yes I do!  The plane is on time and we arrive in Hungary at 08:30 CET and I arrive in the office at 09:00. Time for work.

We return from Poland to Hungary via Vienna. From Vienna to Budapest I am traveling in 1F in a DASH 8/300. Now 1F and 1E are strange seats. They face backwards. This is strange. The landing is an 8. Great stuff.
