Its been a long time since I played according to this blog, and its about right, I did one at the Blind poet, but was not impressed by myself, so did notwrite it up. I amworst on myself than others are, but thats me.
Well Cannons Gait is the home of the "Out of the Bedroom" Open Mic, its a bit anal in that you have to do your own stuff, but thtas kind of good too.
Played under the name Knott Andy!
Staffordshire HillBallard of Bob and Rose50 things to do before I Die
I now have my guitar in Edinburgh therefore I can practice so I awill be out more. I also intend to go to Glasgow, as their music scene looks a bit busier than Edinburghs.

24/7/08 - Canons Gaite, Edinburgh
My debut in Edinburgh. A nice little venue. The open mic session is called "Out of the bedroom", a nice idea. The down side is its an originals only which will limit my ability to play somewhat or I will need to be more creative
They have a strict booking policy and therefore I landed up being the last to play, not bad first time round.
I played under my pseudonym of "Not Andy"
50 things to do before I die
Staffordshire Hill
The Ballard of Bob and Rose. Only two verses as I do not know all the lyrics.
Will find more venues to play over the coming weeks and it will be better once I get a guitar here in Edinburgh.

Nobodys hero - Rush. Only played Verse 1 and chorus 1 as my hand is suffering from cramp given all the work around the house I have been doing.
Hereos - David Bowie (feat Bob on Harmonica)
I have a Dream - Abba (this was my cheesy song)

17/6/08 - Greyhound, Beeston
Due to Euro 2008 it started off relativly empty. Whilst waiting to go on, France were dumped out of the competition by the Italians. Thats two groups I predicted wrong.
Show me the Way - Peter Frampton (See videos and Youtube)
Oranges and lemons - Trad. arrange 2008 Jon Chapman. with Bob on Harmonica.
I dont care at all - Jon Chapman. This song is so un-pc. It is about intollerance and does not express the fellings or thoughts of the author.
Having heard the song back, it could do with some work, musically. The lyrics hang together well. I may post this video to the site.
Behind Blue Eyes - the Who. Played using the 12 string setting on the Variax, sounded nice on playback. Finished with one verse of Won't get fooled again.(See videos & Youtube)
Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton. With Bob on Harmonica. This version is growing on me. (See videos & Youtube)
The videos on here and onYoutube should be up shortly. On MySpace I will post a bulletin when they are up.
Hill Top Fool were very good last night and a welcome return.

10/6/08 - Greyhound, Beeston
Well another interesting night. Tonight's theme is "News"
Played first tonight and all my songs (well most) had a link to the theme
Staffordshire Hill - Jon Chapman. Played in memory of the milestone of hitting 100 dead in Afghanistan.
A Day in the Life - the Beetles. Played to cover all news. I dropped the "Woke up, got out of bed" bit
Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash featuring Bob on Harmonica. Played for two reasons. 1. They are re-building part of Nottingham goal to house more off them, probably in more comfort than they deserve having had part of the prison condemned. and 2. For Mary Peters. Mary Peters was attacked during a robbery/burglary (what is the difference) and spent several days in hospital for her injuries. The inmates at Bristol Prison D wing, raised £86 for her, so I wrote some additional lyrics for the song, as the newspaper article hopped the felon would be put inside with them. A new verse has been added now that he has been caught and sentenced to six years for the offence. As this will run concurrently with his other sentences, he will probably only get another month or two on his overall time inside. This is very wrong!
Oranges and Lemons - Trad Jon Chapman, featuring Bob on Harmonica. I re-wrote the tune, now folkee. Played because of the recent articles about us Britons not being able, or not wanting to peel oranges. Did cause a laugh!
Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton, cocked up as I could not really see it to play it! A bit strange given I know it. News related is that tonight will get rave reviews in the papers (LOL)
Living Doll - Cliff Richard featuring Bob on Harmonica. Played better than last time. No news related interest.

Well another good night, as far as I am concerned. I think I played well, I think I sounded OK, vocally. Not sure what the audience thought.
It was a fast and slow song night. There was nothing new for me, but I dusted off some old songs I played, so here goes.
Substitute - the Who. Played slow using the 12 string setting on my Variax Acoustic. Sounded good. Speeded up for the last verse as i was getting bored playing slow.
Wonderful tonight - Eric Clapton. Played fast. This really worked and really rocked. Vocally I think I sounded good as well. People were singing along.
500 miles - The proclaimers. Played slow, with Bob on Harmonica. This also worked really well and at the end speeded it up. Poor Bob blew his heart out keeping up. he is one hell of a great harp player. Audiance sang along too. Good stuff.--------
Cannot remember what I played here
Whole Lotta Rosie - AC/DC. Played Slow with Bob on Harp
It was Bobs birthday the day before so there was food on offer. Happy birthday you old ....ker!

It was Michael Jackson night. So lots of moon walking or baby dangling
(sic) to be expected.
I was third up, followed Zoe, not making that mistake again, she is very, very good.
Played
50 Things to do before I die - Jon Chapman
Don't Hurt Yourself - Marillion (Nick and Nick opened with ......)
One Minute Silence - Batt/Cage as performed by the Planets on Classical Graphitte their 2002 No1 album. I saw this lot support Deep Purple, and was well impressed. This was played in the form of next weeks challenge which I will not be there for. Next week was something at half speed or double speed, The audience elected, before knowing what the song was for double speed, meaning it was done in half the time. It caused a laugh!
Rocking Robin - Jackson Five featuring Bob on Harmonica
Echo Beach - Martha and the Muffins. There is this trio who play, one plays the saxophone, so there is a opportunity there.
Behind Blue Eyes/Won't Get Fooled again - the Who
In addition the mighty Reds, Man U got to the European Cup final, just! I do not support man u, but follow their games and would rather an English team got there that no.

Not been here for 6 weeks, therefore I did not know what game was being played, however, I had a nice new tee shirt that has a graphic equalizer display and that made up for it. I also chose to do mainly covers from previous weeks games and one new one.
theme was songs with "Black" in the title.
So I did
50 things to do before I die - Jon Chapman
Can’t get you out of my head - Kylie Minouge
39 - Queen
Pigs on the wing - Pink Floyd
Oh the t-shirt was mainly black!
Next week the Rolling Stones
Till next time..............

Belle Vue, Nottingham - 28/2/08
First time here for me. My friends brother's second band, Far Canal, who have had to move from their old residency have set up shop here and this is their first night.
I am a lone accoustic performer, the rest are plugged in bands. It was a good test of a loud gig with my Variax
Played
50 things to do before I die - Jon Chapman
Staffordshire Hill - Jon Chapman
Behind Blue Eyes - the Who
Was a good night. Some very good players in the house.
Till next time.

Whilst I am working in Bristol this week-end I dropped into the High Note music showcase. Now its in a doggy part of Bristol, Majors pub, but is worth checking out.
I caught the end of James Gales set - He is very good and had a bass player helping fill the sound and saw all of Sarah set. I was very impressed. Brillient playing and singing.
It is a shame that more people are not enjoying the experiance.
To the pople of Bristol. Get down there and sort it out

Cant get you out of my head - Kylie Minouge (went well. I will play this again)
Staffordshire Hill - Jon Chapman
'39 - Queen (Brian May). Will add this as a standard song in my increasing set list. It plays well, especially using the 12 string setting on my Variax.
