21-06-2014 Monsal Dale - Walk

The longest day, or if you prefer, the two shortest night!

The route we took, ish

When we came down to Ravensour, we turned left, away from Litton Mill, and crossed a bit upstream to get onto the Monsal Trail, This way we could do the tunnels!

We went anti-clockwise.

The walk came from here

12-06-2014 Asia, Picturedome, Holmfirth

P1280024
This was the second date of a tour to support their new album Gravitas.
Young lad Sam Coulson is excellent a filling in Steve Howe's shoes, I know he has been in the band for a while, but this is the first time I have seen him play.
Carl Palmer is one of the best drummers in the world. I don’t like drum solo's but his is not just musical, but the tricks he does with his sticks is mind blowing.
It was also Johns birthday, Carl pointed out he now gets his bus pass and heating allowance! lol
We did not sing happy birthday!
A few technical problems.
Carl broke his snare, but then again he does hit them hard

For “Voice of America”, Johns 12 string guitar was not plugged in and Sam's acoustic was not coming through, however, Geoff's keyboards fills in the music so much that they were not really missed, much!
Now Geoff Downs, a great keyboard player, but and I have said this before, he spends a lot of time with his back to the audience, not as much when he is playing in Yes, but a lot. I guess he knows this music better.
The venue. Never been here before, but I will try and return, if not only because the beer is cheap and excellent real ale brew!

07-06-2014–Manvers, Open Mic

So After Brucie, straight off to the Open Mic in Radcliffe at the Manvers Inn.

Was not expecting to play for two reasons
a) I had no guitar
b) It is packed night, so coming late I was not expecting a slot

I walked in and there was no one….The open mic was on, but no other players except the host, Martyn, who looked very relived when I arrived!

I also borrowed Martyns nice Stat. Now I normally play acoustic, so this was a change.

Played

  • Please read my letter – Plant/Krause version
  • Behind Blue Eyes – the Who
The following with Martyn on Bass
  • Rocking in the free World – Neil Young
  • 50 things to do before I die - Jon Chapman
  • Pinball Wizard – the Who
  • Its a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll – AC/DC
  • Heroes – David Bowie
  • Don’t Stop Believing – Foreigner (first time)
  • I Want to break free - Queen
  • Sin City – AC/DC (first time)
  • Hey Hey, My My – Neil Young (first time)
I am sure there are some others and will add when I can remember!
Will miss the next one.

07-06-2014 Bruce Forsyth

Well he was entertaining, very funny.

Glad I have seen him live, he can still move for an 86 year old!
