Another city, another open mic night.
I checked this place out a couple of weeks ago and it seemed ok. Ment to go last week, but a works x-mas bash got in the way. Priorities eh!
I could not see my words as they do not use a music stand. James you need to get one!
Played
Start of Eclipse - Pink Floyd (stopped when could not see words).
Don't Hurt Yourself - Marillion
Behind Blue Eyes - the Who
50 things to do before I die - Jon Chapman
next time will do better. I did feel I sang well though.
TTFN and happy Christmas

Last Night!!!
Today was to have been the last day I was working at Leamington. Contract terminated due to overspend. I had planned a big surprise-leaving bash where the announcement was to have been on that night. So much for plans.
I managed to secure a new job, which I started last week (4/12) in Bristol.
I have found an open mic night in Bristol. I have visited it last week and expect to play next week.
I expect to visit soon probably over the Christmas period, so I look forward to seeing some old friends then.

Stuck in the middle with you - Steelers Wheel. Played too fast, and fluffed words and chords a bit. This is a new song should have done better!

The Claude - Cardiff 7/09/06
A very different open mic session.
The Claude is a large pub in Cardiff and there were about 200 people in. The format is that there is a band that plays for an hour, then its open mic, then band on to close.
Went up on a borrowed guitar and did my standard Who numbers
Pinball Wizard and Behind Blue Eyes.
Everybody gets about two songs. I was not intending to get up, but the beer forced me!! Ha Ha

Great Western, Warwick 27/6/06
Back from a workshop, back to the blog.
I have not written for a while and all things are a changing.
Last week my contract was terminated, nothing I had done wrong, more that I had done something right.
They have promoted a full time person, who I have been mentoring, into my job.
Enough said Last night,
Great Western Warwick. Did 4 songs
Cover Me - Springsteen
The Trees - Rush
Substitute - the Who
Announcement that this was my last night here.
Caused some shock amongst those I call friends.
Thanked Mellow Gold, Jez and Terry for their support over the last 9 months I have been playing there.
Pinball Wizard - the Who
Then did second set at the end of the evening, special request
Tattoo - the Who
Behind Blue Eyes - the Who
I discovered that until the festival on the 5th, there is a session every Tuesday, I am now a liar!!!
Off to see the Who tonight in Bristol - Serious rock and roll!

I was crap last night.
I little too much pop early on and I seemed to loose finger co-ordination.
Never mind, still enjoyed it though!
Set list

Don't Hurt Yourself

I really did intend to do some new stuff, but the light was low and the text too small to read.

Morning badger followers last night was great.
Well I think so. I stepped up to the mic, in place of a young lad who's guitar had developed a fault to do a couple of songs whilst he fixed it. Then I was going back on later.
I played
Behind Blue Eyes
Pinball Wizard
Then I was joined by the landlord on bass for Boris the Spider. This is his wife's favourite song. It went down a storm. I never got on later for the other tracks I was planning to do. I have to say that I thought I played and sang very well.

Morning readers (optimist I am)
Last night was good on the playing front. I cocked up two songs because I did not practice, I have hardly picked up my guitar for two weeks at least.
Set list
Don't Hurt yourself
Pinball Wizard
Wish you were here.Wish you were here was a new one for me. I have been playing it for a long time, but this was the first public outing I had. It was received well. In fact one guy said it was the best song of the evening. The song, not my performance of it I suspect he meant. The landlord has requested Boris the spider, so that will be next weeks challenge. He plays bass so I get to play with some one else.

Aussie Floyd
The Aussie Floyd were excellent There was one muppet in the audience who ruined the intro to RUN LIKE HELL, but that was all. Opened with Dark Side in its entirety, then played various tracks from their (the real Floyds) history. Lights and effects were also spot on. I highly recommend this band if you like Floyd. Badger

Well readers The pub ran out of Guinness. Bugger! I did drink a bit and the draft of the Irish is upon me as I write!
Three songs, I was going to do a couple of newies but there was no music stand so
Pinball Wizard (they still like it)
Don't Hurt Yourselves
Behind Blue Eyes My vocal technique, i.e. using the microphone was a lot better that past sessions. New guitar worked and played well and was played by others.
A work mate played for the first time and it was his own material. Excellent!
Off to see the Aussie Floyd tonight, that will be very good!

Badger here! What a day.Started in Manchester, the first wave 7 Data Management Workshop. A nice venue the City of Manchester Stadium. The home of Man City.
Workshop went well, even the new material. I am concerned by the audience as they did not ask many questions. This either means I explained it well or, and is more likely, the just did not get it. We shall see!
I am mentally and physically knackered afterwards. I am presenting for 3 hours, and the questions I get make it more interesting.
It was open mic night again at the Great Western in Warwick. Two work colleagues attended, nice one guys!
Performed
The Trees - Rush
Nobody's Hero - Rush
Pinball Wizard - The Who (I played James sang)feedback was positive, but they are supportive.
I will take my mic stand next time as it is a boom type and this may assist in the playing and singing as it give a bit more room.
Well I am preparing to go on my jollies next week.
One more open mic this week.
Will post on Friday

28/3/06 - Great Western
Well the Badger played last night.
He did not think it was his best.Did a new song - Nobody's Hero by Rush. Forgot the words, and a few cock-ups in the playing, but it went ok.Finished with standards, Behind Blue Eyes and Pinball Wizard - Both went well.
I was not happy with my performance overall. I should not have started with the new song.Feedback was that my vocal technique needs improving in so much that I need to stay attached to the mic! I Will try this advice on Thursday. I also need to SLOOOOOW down.Stay wrapped up!

Update!
20/3/06
Well that was short.Seems like 10 minutes since I was last at work. Anyhow the week-ends fun started on Friday with a few beers in the fine local pub the Horse and Plough.Saturday was quite, spent the day building a mini car. My son is in an egg race for school, so he's entered it and I have to build it! Dad's and lad's eh!
The chassis we (I) built last week, this week is the turn of the body work. I understand he has the paint now and the papier mache body will be transferred into Mr. Beans car.Sat Evening was at the local Rugby club.
I was there watching England v Ireland. now I am not normally a rugby fan, but I do like it when England play and they also had a beer festival. 24 beers and 1 cider to enjoy! We lost the rugby, but I did enjoy the beersSunday well the lads team lost again 1:3. We did play well, but lost it in the second half defensively. And that was that, now in office, just had lunch, and planning to go to the gym later to do a spinning class with a sauna session afterwards.Tonight is Prison Break, so a late night after an early start, oh well!

Bollocks! Lunch in the sun over looking the sea! Sounds too horrible to imagine!been trying to think of new songs for the "next time" I perform. Currently thinking Rush & Oasis. The next Great Western night is at the end of the month and so I will have to learn the words to the new songs. I will in future try not to use props!

WellThe day after the quacks. Been to discuss my results. Outcome = More tests. More blood to give. May have asthma induced by me now swimming every day at the gym. Not that I am a fish. Just 10 lengths, but it does wake me up.Well these links state what I am feeling, some of the time http://www.breathlessness.org/index.html, http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/en.aspx?articleID=65Just heard from my friend in Spain, its sunny!

Great Western - 7/3/06
Well last night was a lot of fun again. Down at the Great Western for the open mic night, did my three songs, mostly got them right!I was playing my new accoustic guitar due to the damage on my previous one. Any how it sounded alright, a little bright, but nice. I will play it better next time as I only brought it yesterday and it was short of one strap pin.
Set list: (oh so very grand)
Don't hurt yourself
Behind Blue Eyes
Pinball Wizard
I shall attempt some new songs next time, may even plan some accoustic AC/DC.
Wee will see.
Off to do what I am supposed to do.
